Between Forest and Lake
International Workshop Between lake and river

The area at the horn is a very rich part for housing in Konstanz . Big villas with large estates are dominating the area and the prices for the estates are really high.
Only wealthy people are living there and for that reason the decision was to enable also middle-class people to live here.
This is not an easy task and the big question is how to make that possible. Affordable materials and construction methods, less energy usage and the mix of living possiblities with low-price flats and high-price flats will make that possible.
Several other goals dominated the draft of the housing quarter. The view to the lake should be possible from almost every flat, the green connection between the forrest and the lakeside will be strengthened. Public and private spaces were also really important inside and outside of the buildings.
Outside there are a small square and green walking areas to relax and enjoy. Inside we propose shared spaces (loggias) at the middle floor for the use of all the inhabitants.
At the top will be the penthouse and at the first and second floor there will be the affordable accomodation for families, singles and couples.
The other restructured area is the Hotel and the connection towards the lake. The necessary number of flats will be reached by having several tree houses that will be spread until and also inside the lake.
The houses will stand on piles high enough so that you can walk under them and enjoy the green connection towards the lake and the view. The density is decreasing towards the water.
The shapes and materials will be simple and connected to the landscape, by the use of wooden structures and facades.
